Cell organelle ANALogy Project
Learning Goal: *Identify the cell organelles on a diagram.
*Describe the function of each organelle.
*Describe the differences between plant and animal cells.
*Describe the function of each organelle.
*Describe the differences between plant and animal cells.
Step 1:
In order to meet the learning goals listed above, you will be working with a partner to complete the chart over cell organelles below. Each person needs to get a chart from your teacher. View a variety of the resources below. While viewing, complete the chart.
1) In the first two columns marked P and A, check which type of cell the organelle is found in, Plant, Animal,or both. 2) In the column marked FUNCTION, describe the organelles job, IN WORDS YOU UNDERSTAND!
3) In the column marked SYMBOL, draw a picture of the organelle.
4) In the column labeled WHY, give an every day object that performs a function similar to the organelle.

step 2:
Show your completed chart to your teacher. She will check it for accuracy and record your score in PowerSchool.
Step 3:
You will now create a Google Drawing of your cell organelle analogies. You have already chose an everyday object which has a similar function (or use) as each cell structure. Find a digital picture of your object and write an analogy to show the similarity between the cell part and the everyday object. Be sure to explain the reasoning behind your analogies. (Example- The nucleus is like a brain because it controls and coordinates the activities of the whole cell in the same way the brain controls and coordinates activities of the body.) Your analogies can all be related, but they don't have to be. Paste the pictures of everyday objects around your cell drawing. Label the pictures with your written analogies and make a pointer to the correct structure in your cell drawing.
**** You MAY not use the analogy of a city or a school, as these are already used in the resources below. ****
A link to the Google Drawing with a picture of a plant cell is below. Be sure to make a copy of this, share it with your partner so you can both access it, and place it in your science folder.

step 4:
Complete the Division of work form below. This is how I will know that the work for the project was shared between both partners.
step 5:
A link to the scoring guide that will be used to grade your project is below. Please look at the scoring guide to make sure you have done quality work.
